Travel Diaries :: The Grand Palace

Not all those who wander are lost...
— Tolkien

When you think Thailand, you think temples. I wasn't, however, quite prepared for the wonderment that these ancient buildings filled me with. The detail, down to every last centimetre, was phenomenal. I had to keep stopping in order to let my mind take in the beauty. It was almost overwhelming. We explored the temples of the great palace slowly, taking in as much as we could, and then went into the courtyard to see the palace itself. It was so incredibly detailed, so beautiful, it felt as though it couldn't be real. It was like a pristine facade, you had to reach out and touch the surface to feel that the gold was real, the walls were really laced with precious gems, it wasn't pretend.
